Learn about the Luau
We can thank the Hawaiians for, among many things, the luau.
If you think that it makes for a great party theme, it should come to no
surprise to you that it is traditionally just that, a big party! The term
itself – in Hawaiian it is Lu’au – means feast and the terms “party” and “luau”
end up being used in place of each other. If you want to impress your friends
and family at your next event, then keep on reading to learn a bit about the
history of the luau.
Back in ancient Hawaii, well before they entered the United
States, men and women were not allowed to eat with one another. In fact, women
were not even allowed to always eat the same foods as men. This all changed
with King Kamehameha II, who removed all of the laws that were previously in
place. By eating with women, the king ended these social norms. It was from
this event that the luau was born.
